Who is Michael Galpert?

Yesterday, I got together with Amit Gupta of Photojojo and we chatted a bit about the fun stuff that can be done with photos and how we are both stoked about going to Vegas next week.

Amit also started a videoblog called 30 seconds with, where he asks “cool” ppl he meets to say something for 30 seconds.

Here are my 30 seconds of fame:

And here are the outtakes:

I am really glad Amit posted them. I was going to blog about it later in the week but I have delayed too many posts in the past to let this one go by…

After we went our separate ways I couldn’t get over the fact that it took me 5 tries to explain who I was and what I do. We have been working on our mission statement and to date we have come up with “enabling creative distribution”. Now its just a matter of living it.

I really liked Amit’s 30secondswith idea that I decided to give it a try…

Corporate Memo

All corporations can learn a lot from David Neeleman the Founder/CEO of Jetblue.

One of these days I’m going to compile a list of people that I think are doing business right. For now enjoy the unpaid service announcement from Jetblue

Good News and Some Bad News

Another classic example of how customer service is marketing 2.0

Library 2.0

Is Barnes & Noble the library 2.0? I spent the day in the B&N cafe with Jenna. We chose B&N because of the ever-flowing coffee and the free, perusable, steal-and-take-back-to-your-table books and magazines. We sat amongst roughly 70 other patrons, who too had similarly “checked out” books and mags from the four floors worth of B&N stacks, and were spending their Sunday reading books they didnt buy, and buying drinks they didn’t want. Every half hour the manager would announce over the loudspeaker that cafe tables were for cafe patrons only. We were reprimanded several times for not having purchased items visible on our table, and made sure to make our starbucks drinks last the entire day. (my choice: Eliotts Amazing Reduced Calorie Cranberry juice. I’m a sucker for new fruit drinks, and it came complete with a print on demand advertisement, so relevant to my line of work you would think google placed it there). The situation got me thinking, why don’t libraries have cafes? why don’t publishing companies (i.e Conde Naste) have cafes? Why aren’t there more places where you can sit and read and eat for “free”? Starbucks is getting there. But they are charging for the NY Times and Mitch Albom books. I think free newspapers and magazines would lure anyone to a cafe. Even without a strict seating policy like the cafe @ B&N, the volluntartilly-bought, overpriced cups of coffee on a Sunday afternoon would cover the costs of the complementary magazines.

This might be a nice feature for the embryonic café bricolage to implement. I really like the idea that Nate has introduced to the nextNY community. For more info read the manifesto. I cant wait to get on board and get the ball rolling on this venture.

This is why I love the Web

Today I received 3 calls to my cell number from a number I didnt recognize. Instead of picking up the call and waisting my cell phone minutes, I just googled the number and got exactly what i was looking for. An amazing service called whocalled.us I have never heard of them before but its a great idea for user generated content. Basically people can comment on unknown numbers that have called them in the past. Hopefully this will bring us one step closer to ending the spam in the world.

Flat World Video Posted

A while back I went to the Collabnet panel discussion and posted my 2 cents.
I just wanted to let you know that the 2 hour long video of the panel discussion was finally posted here. You will have to click “register to view” and will be asked to give them required information: make stuff up the only reason they NEED your contact info is for spam purposes. [btw don't sign up with a@a.com or y@a.com they were already used :-) ] You can also skip the annoying introduction and just go straight to the panel. I didnt watch more than 10 seconds of the video but the quality looks great. enjoy.
